Smart LIDAR sensor
World’s first LiDAR self-drive sensor for passenger vehicles
The RS-LiDAR-M1, known simply as ‘M1’ is the world’s first and only smart LiDAR sensor for self-driving passenger vehicles. Integrated into a microchip and based on solid-state scanning technology and perception software, the M1 is compact and devoid of the risks of mechanical failure. This disruptive product subverts the traditional definition of LiDAR as an information collector and transforms it into an interpreter. The M1 obtains higher definition 3D point cloud data than the traditional mechanical LiDAR. Its built-in perception software and system chip process data in real-time also allowing it to understand its surroundings. In addition, it interprets the driving environment in real-time including positioning road sign detection, obstacle recognition, tracking and classification. This self-drive sensor fully ensures that the vehicle’s planning technology can complete the correct driving decision based on the data. It also helps the vehicle achieve Level 3 to Level 5 autonomous driving and ASIL-D* advanced safety.
Another innovation of M1 is in “GAZE”, which functions similarly to a camera zoom and supports a range of interest (ROI) activation when driving on highways. The ROI’s angular resolution can be doubled or even tripled, clearly showing details of small obstacles and moving vehicles in the distance. On city roads, the ROI can be turned off to increase the refresh rate, quickly updating the system with near-field environmental information to avoid cut-ins and fender-benders.
Robosense’s smart LiDAR sensor has the reliability and intelligence to be applied to autonomous driving. As the world’s first mass-produced automotive-grade solid-state LiDAR, M1 can greatly reduce the cost of the entire LiDAR sensing system, and offer valuable space in the vehicle, empowering the passenger auto industry to advance to the next level of mobility.
