Emission-neutral, alternative fueled heavy-duty engine
An innovation at the heart of an off-grid e-vehicle fast-charging system
With their alternative-fuel engines, NGV Powertrain is helping to run diesel-based engines to become carbon-neutral, by using sustainable fuels.
The company has developed technologies to run existing diesel-based engines with biofuels and e-fuels. Several of these fuels, such as bio-methanol, bioethanol, or bio-LPG, display problems in cold weather. Harmful emissions are hard to abate in such conditions. Existing solutions employ a dual-fuel approach in combining gasoline.
NGV Powertrain has developed proprietary injection-system technology to overcome these limitations by preventing misfire and optimising combustion. In this way, it will be possible to effectively operate mono-fuel engines running only with net-zero-CO2 fuels.
Their innovation is the key to deploying liquid bio-fuels and e-fuels into the market, while simplifying their supply and logistics to enable an effective and truly sustainable green transition.
This technology is embedded into the production of the methanol/ethanol engine, which is world’s first industrialised heavy-duty engine running on 100% alcohol.
Applications include off-grid fast-charging stations of electric vehicles enabling e-mobility everywhere. Looking ahead, the company is viewing potential future deployment for distributed power generation, agricultural machinery and marine transportation.
With its alternative-fuel engines at the heart of an off-grid e-vehicle fast-charging system, NGV Powertrain can unlock e-mobility for all communities whatever their location.
